The Browns shook up their defense and gave another indication of their new direction Wednesday by replacing veteran Karlos Dansby with fellow inside linebacker Demario Davis.
They signed Davis, 27, to a two-year contract, which is worth a maximum of $8 million, including $4.2 million guaranteed, a source familiar with the situation confirmed. Then they terminated the contract of Dansby, who’s still a productive player at age 34.
The swap is the latest sign the Browns’ new regime has hit the reset button on the roster.
The organization cut full-time starting defensive lineman Randy Starks, 32, and part-time starting tight end Jim Dray, 29, last month.
