Football is often referred to as a chess match between the head coaches, who move the players around the field similar to moving chess pieces around the board.
That is not exactly a true comparison, however, as the goal in chess is to capture the other player’s king, while in football the desired result is more than just sacking the quarterback.

Some skills transfer from the board to the field, however, such as seeing the entire playing field to anticipate an opponent’s next move, the need to be strategic and purposeful when making a decision, and the ability to recognize a pattern and adjust accordingly.
