A few months ago, Akron native Devin Smith helped Ohio State win the first national title in college football’s playoff era while living up to his billing as perhaps the best deep-threat wide receiver in the country.
Now the New York Jets are hoping Smith will maintain his status as a formidable playmaker at the next level. On Friday night, they selected Smith in the second round (No. 37 overall) of the NFL Draft.
Smith who attended Ellet High School for two years and graduated from Massillon, is one of 26 prospects who attended the draft in Chicago.
