Browns Rumors Roundup: The Latest On Johnny Manziel, Brian Hoyer, & More

A promising 6-3 start to the 2014 campaign for the Cleveland Browns ended with a resounding thud, as the team lost its final five games amidst a quarterback controversy that included a few headache-inducing twists and turns. Where do the Browns go from here? Who’ll be back with the team in 2015? We look to answer these questions and more in our latest Browns Rumors Roundup.

JOHNNY MANZIEL

Cleveland used a first round pick on Manziel last year and he's the only QB on their roster for next year, but the Browns are far from committed to him. In fact, Cleveland is reportedly interested in packaging their two mid-first round picks in the upcoming draft to  move up and grab Oregon's Marcus Mariota or Florida State's Jameis Winston. Owner Ray Farmer said they wouldn't hesitate to draft another quarterback if they feel it's in the best interest of the team.

BRIAN HOYER

Hoyer will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and while many thought he'd leave after he lost his starting job to Johnny Manziel, he's thinking about returning.

"Brian Hoyer did some good things for us this year, and at the end of the day his future is in his hands,'' said Farmer, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "He has decisions that he needs to make. If he wants to be back, that leverage is definitely in his court to make that happen. Assuming that we could agree to that deal, then that opportunity's available. If we can't come to that agreement, then he obviously would not be back. There's a lot of work to be done in that regard.''

OTHER NOTES

It seems likely that the Browns and Josh Gordon are headed for a split after Gordon was suspended from the team's regular season finale, and the San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys have already expressed interest in him.
