The Cleveland Browns have signed quarterback Josh McCown to a three-year deal, his agent Mike McCartney confirmed on Twitter.
McCown was released this month after spending just one season as the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccanneers. In 2013, McCown was productive serving as Jay Cutler's backup in Chicago, throwing for 1,829 yards, 13 touchdowns, and just one interception.
The arrival of McCown will almost certainly mean that Brian Hoyer, Cleveland’s starter for most of last season, will sign somewhere else.
McCown will be relied on to compete with Johnny Manziel for the starting quarterback job, but will take all the first team reps while Manziel is in rehab.
