The Clemson Tigers nearly won the second national title in school history last season, but with quarterback Deshaun Watson back in the fold, Clemson is expecting to compete for a championship again in 2016. However, if that's going to happen, there are a few areas they need to improve in or questions they need to answer this offseason. Here are three things to watch for during Clemson's spring practice:
3) Is Mike Williams still the same Mike Williams?
Williams was expected to be Clemson's top receiver last season, but a neck injury he suffered in the season opener cost him to miss the entire season. The Tigers were still successful with Artavis Scott, Deon Cain, and Jordan Leggett, but Williams could take this offense to the next level. But will the injury have any lingering effects on him physically or mentally? That we have to wait to see.
2) Can they keep the offensive line playing at a high level?
Clemson replaced four starters along the offensive line last year, and they became one of the best in the country. Now, the Tigers have to replace two of last year's best in guard Eric Mac Lain and right tackle Joe Gore. Clemson was able to take a major step forward this year because of how dominant their offensive line was, and they need to fill the shoes left by those two if they're going to be one of the nation's top teams again.
1) Who will provide a pass rush?
Shaq Lawson and Kevin Dodd both left for the NFL, leaving Clemson looking elsewhere to replace that duo's 24.5 sacks last season. However, Clemson has had someone record at least 12 sacks in each of the past three seasons, and Austin Bryant appears to be the next star in line in Death Valley. The talent is there with Bryant, Richard Yeargin, and four-star recruit Xavier Kelly, but the don't have any experience. Their production will be key to Clemson's success next year.
