Isaiah Simmons should have never been available by pick No. 5 in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Simmons, a former Clemson football LB/S, is the most versatile defensive player in the draft, but the New York Giants elected to go with offensive tackle Andrew Thomas (Georgia) at pick No. 4 Thursday evening.
This is going to be a move that the franchise regrets for many years to follow.
The Giants obviously needed an offensive tackle to help protect Daniel Jones and block for Saquon Barkley, but there’s no doubt that their defense needed an upgrade and choosing to draft Thomas over Simmons is something that will come back to bite them in the long run.
