Scott goes back to the origin on how Clemson became WRU

Clemson co-offensive coordinator and wide receiver’s coach Jeff Scott went into detail following Thursday’s practice on when becoming Wide Receiver U began at Clemson.

“For the first two years, we struggled at wideout in ’08 and ’09,” Scott said. “Deandre Hopkins had to play as a freshman before he was ready. He was 173 pounds and he was not ready, but at the time he was the best that we had. So we kind of went through a spell right there. Then that next group came in.”

That next group was Sammy Watkins, Adam Humphries, Martavis Bryant and Charone Peake as part of the 2011 recruiting class.
