The 2007 football season was going to be interesting for Clemson, in one way or another. The offseason itself had plenty of story lines floating around. In 2006 Clemson had experienced the high of starting 7-1 and crushing #13 Georgia Tech and Calvin Johnson on ESPN in primetime in front of a wild Death Valley crowd, only to slide and lose three of the last four regular season games, including a heartbreaking 3 point loss to rival South Carolina, ending Clemson's four game win streak. The Tigers limped into the Music City Bowl and were then defeated by a mediocre Kentucky team 28-20.
