Clemson lost seven starters from its 10th-ranked defense last year, and since the start of spring practice it lost two cornerbacks in Adrian Baker, who tore his ACL on March 5, and Monday’s dismissal of Kaleb Chalmers, who was arrested last week on multiple drug charges.
But Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney isn’t too worried. Why? He says there is plenty of talent still left in the secondary this spring and even more is on the way once the summer gets here.
Swinney says the Tigers, counting Ryan Carter playing both positions, will have nine cornerbacks and eight safeties this fall with the veterans being Cordrea Tankersley, Mark Fields, Marcus Edmonds, Carter and Baker (Swinney is optimistic Baker will play in 2016) at corner and Jadar Johnson, Van Smith, Korrin Wiggins and Baker at safety.
