Clemson Football has another player who has been recognized on a preseason watchlist, and this time it is the expected starter behind center.
Cade Klubnik has been named to the preseason watchlist for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.
The award has been given annually since 1977. It originally was given to the most outstanding player in the Southwest, regardless of position. It was named for Davey O’Brien, who played quarterback for TCU and won the Heisman Trophy in 1938. Earl Campbell of Texas was the first winner.
In 1981, the award was changed to the best quarterback in the nation.
