With its postseason hopes on life support and the lack of pitching depth starting to show, this team really needed a quality start from its starting pitcher against the Blue Hose, so Monte Lee turned to the elder statesman in his rotation, Brooks Crawford. He did not deliver. Again.
It was another rough outing for the veteran hurler as he lasted just three innings, surrendering 4 runs on 5 hits, in facing just 17 batters. Much of the damage was self inflicted as Crawford issued 3 free passes, 2 of which came around to score.
With another midweek game tomorrow and two of the teams more reliable options out of the bullpen serving suspensions, the last thing this team needed tonight was to burn through its available relievers.
