The Clemson baseball- led by pitcher Clate Schmidt- evened up the series with rival South Carolina by beating the Gamecocks by a score of 5-0 Saturday afternoon.
Clate Schmidt pitched 5.1 innings, striking out six and allowed only one hit in the winning effort. He was dialed in from the beginning and held a very explosive South Carolina offense scoreless in his time on the bump.
“Clate has pitched in big situations like this game before and has had success, so we felt very good with him today. We felt like if there was anybody that could get us back into this thing and even the series up after a tough game one, it was Clate Schmidt.
