The season’s first College Football Playoff rankings were announced Tuesday evening, with Alabama, Clemson, LSU, and Notre Dame earning the top 4 spots, while Michigan and Georgia sit at No. 5 and No. 6.
Alabama and Clemson have dominated the College Football Playoff era by winning three of the first four titles and earning seven of the first 16 playoff spots.
College Football Playoff chair Rob Mullens told the media Tuesday that there were a few data points that separated Alabama and Clemson for the top spot.
“You know, it's never just one thing. Obviously, we look at the data, then we watch a lot of games,” Mullens said.
