The time for speculation for 2018 is nearly over, but before we get there, I wanted to look at the current makeup of the 2018 Clemson defense and try to compare back to the current gold standard of modern Tiger defense from 2014. I will also take a nod to the 1990 group with the understanding that 1990 was pre-HUNH/Spread football and in my opinion that team, though great for sure, didn’t face the firepower and diversity the 2014 group did nor this year’s team will. Anytime I’ve heard Brent Venables talk about the 2014 defense, I just get the feeling it was his favorite group maybe of his entire career.
