Clemson will look to cap off a perfect regular season against South Carolina in the Palmetto Bowl. While the Tigers will be looking to keep a playoff birth alive, the Gamecocks will be treating this matchup as their bowl game. This will be their last game and a win would give them something to build off of for next year. Clemson will definitely take the Cocks best shot.
Clemson’s Offense vs South Carolina’s Defense
The Gamecocks will have their hands full this weekend. They have struggled against good offenses this year. Skai Moore is the unquestioned leader of the defense and will need to have a big game if they have any hope to stop Clemson. Other than Moore the defense has lacked consistency.
Deshaun Watson will look to have a big game. South Carolina has struggled to stop the pass. Watson should be able get the ball to his receivers with no problem. Artavis Scott had a big game in the Palmetto Bowl last year and could have a repeat performance this year. Also, look for Charone Peake to continue his excellent play and Wayne Gallman should perform well after sitting out last week to nurse an ankle injury.
South Carolina’s Offense vs Clemson’s Defense
Pharoah Cooper is the unquestioned star for South Carolina. Cooper will need to have a huge game Saturday if the Gamecocks want to come away with a win. Coach Sean Elliott will look to get the ball in Cooper’s hands as much as he can whether it be with the run game or pass game. Running back Brandon Wilds will also be a threat.
Look for Mackensie Alexander to shadow Cooper most of the game. Alexander likes the challenge of taking on great receivers and this weekend is no different. Also, look for the rest of the Tiger defense to be aggressive and force turnovers.
Special Teams
Clemson has been much better in recent weeks with kick coverage. They will need to continue to perform well as Pharoah Cooper can hurt them with big returns. Bad coverage will cost the Tigers. The kicking advantage goes to Clemson. Greg Huegel has be solid at kicker.
Prediction
South Carolina will come out and hold nothing back. This game is their season. The Cocks have nothing to lose and will throw everything at the Tigers. But Clemson has too much firepower. The Tiger offense has too many weapons and the defense has been able to slow down opposing offenses. Clemson wins 41-16.
