We're just seven days away from National Signing Day on February 3rd, which means head coach Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers are tripling down their efforts in hopes of delivering a banner 2016 recruiting class. With that in mind, here are the three biggest rumors from the Clemson recruiting trail for January 27th.
Clemson In The Lead For Four-Star Lineman
North Charleston (SC) Fort Dorchester offensive guard John Simpson took an official visit to Clemson this past weekend, and it may have been a clincher when it comes to his pledge on or before National Signing Day.
Simpson reportedly had the best experience of his multiple visits to campus, and his trip has cemented Clemson as a breakaway favorite for his signature (with Florida lurking as a potential spoiler).
Ranked as the #7 offensive guard in the Class of 2016 by 247Sports, Simpson has been getting plenty of run from SEC programs. However, it appears he's a good bet to be ACC-bound.
Speaking Of Offensive Guards...
Clemson is looking to stock the offensive line for years to come, and they've got yet another Clemson-leaning four-star offensive guard on their radar -- Cincinnati (OH) St. Xavier product Matt Bockhorst.
Notre Dame is making a huge push for Bockhorst's signature, but Clemson has the advantage of hosting his final visit before Signing Day this weekend. We're pretty confident that'll seal the deal for the Tigers, but we won't know for sure until Bockhorst announces next Wednesday.
Tigers In Mix For Finley
Four-star Fort Walton Beach (FL) Niceville safety Romeo Finley took his official visit to Clemson this past weekend and had a blast sledding for the first time in the snow.
Georgia Tech remains a slight favorite for the #15 safety in the nation, but Miami and Clemson are reportedly gaining ground. While he's not a safe bet to switch gears towards Clemson, the Tigers remain right in the mix.
