This past summer Swinney and his coaching staff amped up its recruiting efforts after a slow start for the class of 2013. Clemson was able to get the top recruit in the country, Robert Nkemdiche to commit to the Tigers. With a player of his caliber, the recruiting process often continues long after their commitment and this case is no different.
Recently, some of Clemson's top recruits appear to be flirting with other schools most notably Robert Nkemdiche, the to recruit in the country. The Atlanta Journal Constitution has reported that his mother is wanting him to go to Ole Miss where his brother plays. His mother has yet to visit the Clemson campus because she has been in Nigeria serving as a politician there. Once she has the opportunity to visit Clemson or the Tiger coaching staff, she should feel more comfortable with her son's decision. Clemson doesn't try to talk players into committing but rather to hold their commitment until they're absolutely sure Clemson is the place for them. Also, current teammates David Kamara and Wayne Gallman are committed to Clemson and former teammate and family friend, Nick Schuessler, is already in the Clemson program. Because of this, Clemson should have the upper hand.
Ultimately, with players of the caliber of Nkemdiche, nothing is final until signing day. High School players sometimes struggle with media and with a life changing decision like picking a college to attend, recruits are pulled in different directions. It might even take a trip to Nigeria to visit Nkemdiche's mother to show what Clemson is all about. At the end of the day, it's what is best for the recruit that matters and ultimately his decision. Clemson has an up and coming program, the opportunity to play immediately, and commitments from Nkemdiche's close friends. Those 3 factors should help Dabo and company get Nkemdiche to honor his current commitment and wear orange next season.
