One of college football's best traditions was tarnished a little this week when the story broke that Howard's Rock had been damaged. Some irresponsible people found their way into Memorial Stadium and broke off about 10-15% of The Rock. Though the damage to the rock was minimal just the fact that a piece of it was broken off is a huge deal. Clemson fans are sick to their stomach that something like this would happen but maybe more so devastated at the fact that more damage couldve been done or taken away. What if the people who done this despicable act didn't just stop after taking a chunk out of The Rock? What if they took a sledge hammer to the rock and completely shattered the whole thing? Luckily for Clemson fans that didn't happen but the possibility is out there and questions are now raised as to how such a prominent piece of Tiger and college football history could be left unsecured. No cameras on it at all? The glass case that surrounded it easily broken? It's time to be proactive and not reactive. Put the rock under constant surveillance and in a bullet proof case. There's no reason why something as iconic as Howard's Rock should be tarnished. After all what would the most exciting 25 seconds in all of college football be without The Rock? There's no question when Clemson opens the season against Georgia this year Clemson Nation will feel maybe just a tad more excited that they still have a rock and a tradition that is so special.
