In 2009, Milton Jennings came to Clemson as only the sixth McDonald's All-American to play for the Tigers. Jennings had lofty expectations and was joining a program that was on the rise. Most thought he was going to be one of the all time greats. Instead, he has made a career of head scratching plays with a few flashes of brilliance.
Jennings career can be summed up in a week span of play. In the ACC opener against Florida State Jennings just seemed to have his head somewhere else. He did manage to reach 10 points scoring but only had 5 rebounds. In the final minutes of the game, when Clemson had numerous opportunities to tie the game, Jennings had 3 turnovers. He played with the maturity of a freshman in the closing minutes and it cost Clemson the game.
Fast forward one week later and he looked like a seasoned 4th year senior. Jennings hit 5 three pointers on his way to a 21 point effort. It was his best scoring performance against an ACC opponent and one point shy of his career high. Starting the second half it appeared as though the Tigers were going to be in a close game down to the end. But Jennings put the team on his back when the game was close scoring 16 points in the second half and
finishing with 11 total rebounds.
Now to expect Jennings to have 20 points and 10 rebounds each game would be ridiculous but with his talent it should happen more often. Even if he is not scoring he should be more of a factor on the boards as he has two 10 plus rebound games this season and only 10 for his entire career. For a player with his size and talent he should be a consistent 10 rebound guy. Can he get it together mentally to finish his career or will he be up and down like this the rest of his career? The Virginia game could be a turning point.
