Yonder Alonso, former Cincinnati Reds first-round draft pick, announces retirement

Yonder Alonso, a first-round pick of the Cincinnati Reds in the 2008 MLB Draft who played parts of two seasons with the team at the start of his Major League Baseball career, announced his retirement via Instagram on Friday.

Alonso hit .259 with 100 home runs over parts of 10 big-league seasons for the Reds, the San Diego Padres, the Oakland A's, the Seattle Mariners, the Cleveland Indians, the Chicago White Sox and the Colorado Rockies.

He was traded by the Reds with Brad Boxberger, Yasmani Grandal and Edinson Volquez to the Padres for Mat Latos in Dec.
