GOODYEAR, Ariz. –– On Tuesday morning, Cincinnati Reds pitcher Tony Santillan was walking back to the clubhouse when manager David Bell called the right-hander into his office.
Santillan was anticipating this conversation, knowing that the Reds were finalizing whether he’d be a starting pitcher or a reliever this season. Santillan had told the coaches he’d appreciate pitching in any role on the MLB team, and this week he has been waiting for the final decision.
Bell told Santillan that he’d be heading to the bullpen. In that role, Santillan will likely be one of the Reds go-to relievers in high leverage situations.
