The Cincinnati Reds enter 2021 in search of a new closer, and left-handed reliever Amir Garrett wants the job.
Once one of the Reds' top prospects, Garrett has emerged as key bullpen arm and go-to lefty. Garrett carried a 2.45 ERA in 2020 in 21 appearances over 18.1 innings with 26 strikeouts. He had a 3.21 ERA and 5-3 record in 2019 in 56 innings.
Garrett uses an effective slider that has become one of the best in baseball.
“I think that pitch helps him against right-handed hitters as well," David Bell told the Cincinnati Enquirer's Bobby Nightengale in 2019.
