ATLANTA – For just the third time since 1890, the Cincinnati Reds will open a season on the road.
They had a three-game series rained out in 1966, which led to starting the season in Philadelphia. A 32-day lockout pushed back the start of the 1990 season when the Reds opened in Houston. And now, a 99-day lockout means the Reds will face Atlanta at 8 p.m. Thursday at Truist Park (ESPN2, 700-WLW).
It's no easy schedule for the Reds as they face the defending World Series champions. Tyler Mahle will make his first Opening Day start opposite of Atlanta lefty Max Fried, who tossed six shutout innings in Game 6 of the World Series to clinch the title.
