What it means to have Sonny Gray back at the top of the Cincinnati Reds starting rotation

Five months ago, Sonny Gray was waiting around in Atlanta.

Last October, Gray was ready to be the starting pitcher in one of the biggest games the Cincinnati Reds have played since they won the 1990 World Series. Gray was slated to start the win-or-go-home Game 3 of the 2020 National League Wild Card Series.

But Cincinnati got swept by the Atlanta Braves before Gray got the chance to pitch. Shortly after the season ended, the Reds lost five key players to trades and free agency.

And then Gray saw his name appear in trade rumors.
