Puig scored from first on José Iglesias' single on right fielder Christian Yelich's throwing error when the ball got away from first baseman Eric Thames. Puig had stopped at third. He took off when he saw the ball get away and scored with a headfirst slide.
Puig also hit his 18th home run of the season earlier in the game.
