Joey Votto's lingering knee injury from being hit by a pitch on Aug. 4 has now forced him to the disabled list.
The Reds placed their star first baseman on the 10-day DL on Friday with a right lower leg contusion. To replace Votto, Cincinnati called up outfielder Aristides Aquino from Double-A Pensacola.
Votto, who is hitting .284/.422/.419 with nine home runs and 55 RBIs this season, had been trying to play through the knee issue after he was hit with a 96-mph fastball by the Nationals' Ryan Madson. But of the Reds' 10 games since then, he's only played eight, and started six.
