Votto homers again, but Reds fall short in finale

CINCINNATI -- The Reds could not quite complete the comeback. After working their way back from a sizeable deficit, they were handed a 7-6 loss by the Padres on Sunday at Great American Ball Park on Eric Hosmer's leadoff homer in the top of the ninth inning. The teams split the four-game series.

Following a 1-hour, 32-minute rain delay at the start of the bottom of the eighth inning, Tucker Barnhart hit a leadoff double for Cincinnati against Craig Stammen but was left stranded. Pitching for the first time in a week, Raisel Iglesias' second pitch of his outing was a 1-0 sinker that Hosmer lifted into the first row of seats in left field.
