ST. LOUIS – As the Cincinnati Reds raced to a seven-run lead in the third inning Sunday, they had one piece of bad news.
Center fielder Tyler Naquin left their game against the St. Louis Cardinals because of left hamstring tightness. He was replaced in the third inning when Shogo Akiyama pinch-hit for him.
Naquin hit a double to left field in his first at-bat. He was thrown out at second base to end the inning when he thought about advancing to third during a rundown. He took a bit of an awkward slide as he tried to retreat to second base, ending up short of the bag.
