Cincinnati Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart always prides himself on his defense and nobody was better during the 2020 season.
Barnhart earned his second career Rawlings Gold Glove on Tuesday, which was announced on ESPN. He joined 10-time winner Johnny Bench (1968-77) and two-time winner Johnny Edwards (1963-64) as the only catchers in franchise history to win multiple Gold Gloves.
He edged finalists Jacob Stallings (Pittsburgh) and Willson Contreras (Chicago). Unlike previous years, the award was based solely on SABR defensive index, which aggregates statistical and analytical defensive metrics from Statcast, Sports Info Solutions and STATS.
