During the All-Star break, Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart worked with hitting coaches Turner Ward and Donnie Ecker on his swing. He felt like he had too many parts of his swing that dependent on his timing and he wanted to simplify everything.
Barnhart was on the injured list for a month with a strained right oblique, which included during the All-Star break, but it gave him time to re-evaluate his swing. He watched stars like Mike Trout and Christian Yelich and tried to adapt parts of their swings into his own.
With two runners on base in the sixth inning Sunday, Barnhart produced a go-ahead RBI single to lift the Reds to a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Great American Ball Park.
