The Reds were looking to start a rally against the San Diego Padres in the third inning Monday when Eugenio Suárez drew a two-out walk and Aristides Aquino was hit by a pitch.
José Peraza followed with a line-drive single into left field, but Suárez, who started at second base, was thrown out at the plate by at least 10 feet after he was waved home by third-base coach J.R. House.
Rally over.
The Reds had another out at the plate in the ninth inning when Tucker Barnhart, the potential game-tying run, was caught in a rundown on a comebacker to the mound.
