Oct. 21-22, 1975 – Game 6 of the World Series
Game 6 of the 1975 World Series is among the greatest ever played – some still say the greatest – but there’s one reason it’s not higher in this ranking.
That is, of course, because the Cincinnati Reds lost to the Boston Red Sox, 7-6, on Carlton Fisk’s 12th-inning leadoff home run.
After losing the 1970 and 1972 World Series and the 1973 National League Championship Series, the Reds were in position as late as the middle of the eighth inning to clinch their first World Series championship since 1940.
