Then-Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig announced on Jan. 23, 2013, that the Cincinnati Reds and the City of Cincinnati would host the 2015 MLB All-Star Game and all of the related activities that have turned the annual event into a major extravaganza approaching circus-like proportions.

The All-Star Game previously had been played in Cincinnati three times, including July 14, 1970. When did the Reds learn they would be hosting that game? On Dec. 5, 1969, during the winter meetings in Bal Harbour, Florida.

The Reds had 31 months to put together the 2015 event.
