Joe Morgan, “the sparkplug of the Big Red Machine,” died Sunday at his home in Danville, California at age 77. The Hall of Fame second baseman had numerous memorable moments in the eight seasons he played for the Cincinnati Reds, which included winning two World Championships. 1. Back-to-back MVP Awards: Morgan was at his peak during the Reds’ two championship runs in 1975 and ’76, winning the National League Most Value Player Award for both seasons. Morgan was “a complete player,” with slugging, base stealing and Gold Glove fielding.
