It was a busy day for the Cincinnati Reds on this date 100 years ago, as the organization (unlike current ownership) decided to throw money around and purchase the contracts of three players who were playing for other organizations at the time.
The Reds coveted pitchers James “Big Jim” Bluejacket and Al Schutz, plus 1B/C Emil Huhn, during their spending spree–which netted them four total years of service between the three players.
The teams these players were purchased from: the Brooklyn Tip-Tops, Buffalo Blues and Newark Pepper, respectively. But you probably already knew that.
Bluejacket’s time in Cincinnati was short, as he only made two starts in his three games pitched, allowing six runs in just seven innings pitched.
