'This weekend was tough': Reds' defense was the difference as they get swept by the Padres

SAN DIEGO –– In the bottom of the third inning on Sunday, Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto made a routine throw across the diamond to third baseman Eugenio Suárez.

Padres right fielder Wil Myers had just hit a line drive down the right field line, and Votto received the relay throw from the outfield and tried to catch Myers with a throw to third base. Instead, Suárez dropped the ball, and Myers ran home to score the game-deciding run in the Reds' 3-2 loss to the Padres.

“The ball just got by (Suárez),” manager David Bell said.
