For a Cincinnati Reds organization in the early stages of a rebuild, the coaching staff is looking for future centerpieces that could be a part of the next Reds contender.
On Friday, one of those players arrived.
The Reds called up infielder Spencer Steer, who was the centerpiece of the deal when they traded starting pitcher Tyler Mahle to the Minnesota Twins at the trade deadline. Steer, 24, is ranked as a top-100 prospect in MLB by Baseball America, played in the Future’s Game this year and will get every day playing time between multiple positions for the Reds going forward.
