CLEVELAND – The Cincinnati Reds had two runners thrown out on the base paths, allowed a runner to score from second base on a fielder’s choice at second and produced only three hits.
Not exactly a winning formula.
Tejay Antone pitched well in his first career Major League start, but the Reds couldn’t manufacture any runs and they were hurt by their defense in a 2-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday at Progressive Field.
Cleveland didn’t do much offensively but scored two runs in the fifth inning with Michael Lorenzen on the mound. With two runners on base through walks, César Hernández slapped a single through the left side of the infield and Jordan Luplow easily scored from second base when left fielder Shogo Akiyama’s throw was off target.
