After spending days negotiating a trade with the New York Yankees and later a contract extension with Sonny Gray, the Reds finally landed their third starting pitcher of the offseason Monday.
The Reds acquired the right-handed Gray after the 29-year-old pitcher agreed to a three-year contract extension, according to sources. The Reds, who will also add left-handed pitching prospect Reiver Sanmartin, are sending prospect Shed Long and their competitive balance pick in the 2019 MLB Draft (likely No. 37 overall) to the Yankees to complete the deal, which adds to the Reds' starting rotation before the start of the 2019 season.
