MILWAUKEE – For the first time all afternoon, the American Family Field crowd of 28,656 had a reason to make some noise with Sonny Gray on the mound.
The Milwaukee Brewers loaded the bases with two hits and a walk in the sixth inning, bringing cleanup hitter Rowdy Tellez to the plate with two outs. Gray, for the first time, pitched into some trouble.
Gray permitted only one hit through the first five innings, looking more and more like his vintage self. Now with the crowd at a full roar, Gray didn’t flinch. He induced an inning-ending groundout and Wade Miley met him at the top of the dugout steps for a high-five.
