Last night saw Elly De La Cruz pick up 4 hits, steal 4 bases, and score 3 runs to lead the Cincinnati Reds past the behemoth Los Angeles Dodgers in the series opener at Dodger Stadium, doing wonders for both morale and the Reds status at the bottom of the National League Central.
Prior to last night’s heroics from Elly, however, the Reds had been a stumbling, blithering mess for the entire month of May, slipping to 7 games under .500 and into last place in the division. It was enough to prompt the question of whether manager David Bell was on the hot seat in this, his 6th season at the helm of the Reds in which time they’ve won precisely nothing of note.
