WASHINGTON, D.C. – It was just a year ago when Vladimir Gutierrez received an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug and question marks surrounded his career.
Now, he’s set to reach one of his dreams.
Gutierrez will make his Major League debut Friday when he’s the starting pitcher against the Chicago Cubs. The Reds needed someone to fill a spot start this week because Wade Miley is on the 10-day injured list with a left foot injury.
He learned the news when he was picking up his wife and son from the airport Sunday in preparation for his next minor-league start.
