When Arismendy Alcantara was growing up, he knew he wasn’t going to be the biggest player on the diamond, so he had to figure out other ways to contribute than brute force.
“Growing up you start bunting, because I'm not too tall, so I've got to play the little game,” Alcantara said following Monday’s 5-1 victory over Cleveland. “You practice a lot.”
Alcantara’s practice paid off with a perfectly executed safety squeeze in the Reds’ three-run seventh, giving Cincinnati a cushion to finish off the final two innings in the first game of the four-game home-and-home series with Cleveland.
