CHICAGO – The signs that Scott Feldman’s knee was bothering him Thursday were abundant.
The Cincinnati Reds right-hander couldn’t get to the bag on a grounder to first, forcing Joey Votto to speed for the out himself. He deferred to the catcher on a bunt that would usually be his to field. He even was asked to drop a sacrifice bunt with a 9-0 lead, rather than stumble into a hit and be forced to run the bases.
Most of all, Feldman was throwing his fastball at 82 mph. To compensate, the 34-year-old relied mostly on his curveball.
