CLEVELAND – Scoreless for 19 consecutive innings, the Cincinnati Reds finally had something building in the sixth inning Thursday. Joey Votto drew a walk and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. Eugenio Suárez added another walk.
With runners on the corners and two outs, Jesse Winker represented the game-tying run in the batter’s box. Carlos Carrasco threw a changeup that dropped below the strike zone, but home-plate umpire Jerry Meals rang up Winker.
The Reds dugout exploded, enraged at the call. Nick Senzel, from the on-deck circle, raised his arms in disbelief. Winker shouted as he started to walk to the dugout.
