The Reds have gone with the young arms lately. That’s probably the way to go with a rebuilding club.
But it isn’t always pretty. Just ask Zack Weiss and Tanner Rainey.
Weiss, the 25-year-old right-hander, made his debut Thursday. The first two batters hit home runs. The second two walked. He was followed by Rainey, another 25-year-old right-hander, who made his debut Tuesday and gave a up a grand slam. Rainey walked the first three he faced.
It all led to a seven-run inning and a very ugly 13-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals before a crowd of 11,128 at Great American Ball Park.
