PITTSBURGH – Rookie Davis got as much treatment as he could, and even slept Tuesday night with a compression sleeve on his right arm. But when he awoke the morning after taking a 96-mph fastball off his forearm, he knew he wouldn’t be able to make his next start.
That wasn’t a surprise for the Cincinnati Reds, who placed Davis on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday. “I don’t think any of us could hope hard enough to think he would come in feeling fine after that,” said Reds manager Bryan Price.
Right-handed reliever Barrett Astin was called up in Davis’ place to give the Reds more depth in the bullpen.
