CINCINNATI -- After he struggled during his big league debut with the Reds on Sunday, starting pitcher Sal Romano was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. Right-handed pitcher Lisalverto Bonilla was recalled from Louisville to take his place.
Bonilla, who was claimed off of waivers from the Pirates on Feb. 13, was 2-0 with a 5.56 ERA in two starts for Louisville. He last pitched in the big leagues in 2014 for the Rangers and was 3-0 with a 3.05 ERA in five games, including three starts.
The Reds will need starting pitchers for Friday and Saturday's games against the Cubs, and they have yet to make an announcement.
