Rob Manfred: MLB season will be delayed at least 8 weeks amid coronavirus pandemic

It wasn’t a surprise to anyone following all the precautionary steps across the nation, but Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred told owners in a conference call Monday that the MLB season will not begin April 9.

The league announced last week that it was delaying the start of the regular season by at least two weeks because of the novel coronavirus pandemic. It will be a much longer delay after the CDC recommended Sunday there are no events with 50 or more people for the next two months, which MLB will follow. The Cincinnati Reds were already bracing for a potential delay into late-May.
